Heated online exchange between PNP Activist and JLP Councillor over Integrity Commission ruling

An online dispute broke out between a People's National Party activist and a Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) councillor over a complaint the Integrity Commission had suggested be brought against the local government representative for neglecting to submit his statutory declaration.

A report by the Integrity Commission filed in Parliament on Tuesday indicated that Councillor for the Red Hills division in the Kingston and St Andrew Municipal Corporation, Rohan Hall, failed to file his statutory declaration for the December 2019 period.

It indicated that Hall was served a notice to discharge liability on September 12, 2023, and given 21 days to pay a fixed penalty of $250,000 to Tax Administration Jamaica.

He was also to submit the outstanding declaration.

However, the councillor reportedly failed to do either of the two, Director of Investigations Kevon Stephenson said, following checks with the Information and Complaints Division of the commission.

The case was referred to the director of corruption prosecution, who ruled that Hall be charged for breaching section 43(1)a of the Integrity Commission Act.

PNP activist Bentley Davis posted the news about Hall on Facebook, which drew his ire.

"You're such an a@$hole!" said Hall in response to a post by Davis.

"I was fine for not filing on time and you're making this an issue! Once a court date is announce and the fine is paid, the matter is a closure," Hall added, while making allegations against Davis.

The PNP activist shot back.

"Rohan Hall can't fool people with sense, keep talking with yuh sh*@ty [expletive] mouth and see who gona laugh last. The law who a defend you and the law who back me a 2 different law, try figure that out. Anytime yuh mek another allegation statement, yuh will see how powerful I'm," Davis retorted.

"Bentley Davis, I was advice that you're an a#$ and I should ignore you. As such, I'll do same," Hall responded.

The Gleaner understands that Davis is a prominent member of Joan Gordon-Webley's campaign team.

Gordon-Webley lost in her bid to unseat JLP Member of Parliament Juliet Cuthbert-Flynn at the polls on September 3.

Davis, a businessman and philanthropist, is a well-known figure in the Red Hills and Rock Hall areas, for his advocacy for youth and sports, especially football.
